Is coconut cream pie a symbol of our cultural superiority?

This month I'm reading Jared Diamond's Collapse. He argues that by learning from past society failures we can prevent our own extinction. Inherent in his argument is that past failed societies were neither blundering idiots begging to be disenfranchised and subjugated by other races; nor were they gentle, intelligent steward's that cared for the land they occupied like superbenevolent, vegan, eco-hippes. Rather, they were just regular idiots like us but without the benefit of the foreknowledge that comes with millenia of human existence.

Or maybe humans have only existed for 33,000 years?

Me? I think that our ability to create coconut cream pie is what sets us apart from indiginous peoples. Mmmmm....coconut.
